La película inicia con el nacimiento de otro Kira, una mas despiadado que el anterior, porque es fan del primer Kira y ahora mata para llamar la atención de este.
Esto sorprende a L, que no entiende como Yagami puede matar gente si lo tiene al lado todo el tiempo, entonces teme que el segundo Kira se una al primero y juntos creen una masacre.
Entonces el segundo Kira encuentra al primero gracias a un nefasto trato que a echo con su demonio guardian, ya juntos los 2 Kiras traman como matar a L y nos explican por primera vez como es que aparecen los Death Note.
L para cumplir con su misión de atrapar a Kira no duda en atrapar a un sospechoso, sospechoso realmente culpable pero que se habia desecho del Death Note para tenderle una trampa a L y así poder conocer su nombre para matarlo.
Sin embargo L a costa de su propia vida logra resolver el caso y soprende a los Kiras, pero es el fin de los Death Note?? eso... eso no se puede saber.
